chem1st
A person smoking 20 a day will spend over £1000 a year in tax alone. 3/4s of people in the UK don't smoke. If they did, those 45million people would spend 45 billion+ on tax alone per year. They'd also die a lot earlier too, we wouldn't have to raise the retirement age to 69+ for the youth to whom we have passed on the gigantic debt and we'd save a hell of a lot on pensions and healthcare. The spending cuts will save 81 billion over 4 years. If non smokers sparked up 20 times a day, we would raise a minimum of 180 billion over those 4 years. There would be no need for cuts and an extra 100 billion to play with. 100 billion would be enough to build 1.6 million + homes and solve the housing crisis. If you aren't smoking 20 a day. Why not? You should be putting into the economy instead of trying to live long and be a burden to your sons and daughters.

dell12
But the cost of smoking to the NHS has been put at £5bn per year. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8086142.stm But this figure doesn't include the effects of passive smoking, days lost to illness because of smoking, informal care or the care of wider conditions also associated with smoking. But I'm guessing your post is ever so slightly tongue in cheek.

Conrod
Passive smoking !! load of rubbish all the crap has already been filtered through the lungsThat's impressive, considering half of it doesn't get inhaled, and given the evidence over many years of non-smokers who work in smoky environments dying from tar-filled cancerous lungs. Xt500
That's impressive, considering half of it doesn't get inhaled, and given the evidence over many years of non-smokers who work in smoky environments dying from tar-filled cancerous lungs. Real INDEPENDANT tests show there is no harm from passive smoking whatsoever.Of course you could go along with the jackanory stats nu or is it old labour had dreamed up and think theres some truth in it,but then why would you single that out when everything else they told you was lies? You would have to be in a very very small room for very very long periods of time for passive smoking to be a problem at all. Some people will believe owt!!
