crookesey
its easy to spot the supermarket jobsworths on these threads isnt it? It might be for you, I'm just amazed that so many folk appear to know so much about this subject.
alex3659
Was in the Co-Op at Stannington Sunday lunchtime when the young woman in front of me asked for some cigarettes. The assistant asked if she had any identity. The young woman looked bemused and said she was thirtythree! The assistant said well you could be under twentyfive and I can't serve you! There was no way that young woman was in her twenties! She went out of the shop and was served in the shop next door! Think some shop assistants need eye tests!!! These supermarket rules are only to pacify the pc brigade. The law on cigs is 16 and alcohol 18 so what is all this got to be 25 years old about?. HeadingNorth
These supermarket rules are only to pacify the pc brigade. The law on cigs is 16 and alcohol 18 so what is all this got to be 25 years old about?. It's an offence for the retailer not to have a system in place to help to eliminate illegal sales. Such a sytem, really, can only consist of "anyone who looks younger than X must be asked for ID." Since people can be well over 20 and still look 17, or be 17 and look well over 20, most retailers seem to have settled on 25. I still think they'd be better advised to insist that anybody buying alcohol, regardless of apparent age, must present ID.
alex3659
:o:o cigs have been 18 since october 2007!! Didn't know that but the point still stands, if person has proof of being 18 years old they should be served.

They will be served, you have to ID anyone that doesnt look over 25 to cut out the supposed risk of serving under 18's age restricted products. Could you pick out an 18 year old from a group of people between 17 and 18 without id? Alot of people cant so if anyone looks under 25 they will be asked for ID i cant see what the fuss is about to be honest, just carry ID with you like your driving license etc and you wont have anything to worry about.
