Nagel
Oooh wow... they are identical, aren't they? Zeenat http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=S9+3RQ&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=18.77642,37.089844&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Sheffield,+South+Yorkshire+S9+3RQ,+United+Kingdom&ll=53.395204,-1.430519&spn=0.009225,0.01811&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=53.395283,-1.430409&panoid=8pluDOlLuyDadVe-Z61t4A&cbp=12,108.37,,0,-13.23 Boots http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&q=boots+chemist+west+street+sheffield&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=boots+chemist&hnear=West+St,+Sheffield,+South+Yorkshire+S1,+United+Kingdom&ei=vejvTPLxGcfBhAf97_TtDA&oi=local_group&ved=0CAoQtgMwAQ&ll=53.38009,-1.480472&spn=0.004454,0.013143&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=53.380052,-1.480405&panoid=_rotcSO1LN9T5KDrwrM8-A&cbp=12,312.09,,0,-12.34 There's just a very minor difference with the pediment top, between the two. There's some subtle differences and it's possible the pediment was demolished on the Zeenat building. I first found out from Pevsners City Guide to Sheffield, an excellent book worth buying if you haven't already got it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sheffield-Pevsner-City-Guides-Architectural/dp/0300105851
Nagel
I just noticed that The Zeenat lacks the dome on the roof. I'm sure it used to have one just like the Boots on West Street. Aren't these buildings listed? Time to check out Picture Sheffield...
Plain Talker
I just noticed that The Zeenat lacks the dome on the roof. I'm sure it used to have one just like the Boots on West Street. Aren't these buildings listed? Time to check out Picture Sheffield... On closer examination, it looks like the Boots on West Street had a Clock under the dome area, whereas the Zeenat building appears to have an ornate window. Another slight difference (oh, and the Boots has pediments on both façades, the Zeenat seems to only have the pediment on the frontage. )
Plain Talker
Seeing as Constable Road school, and Herdings school are demolished, and Birley Spa school is rebuilt, I've been looking for an example of derwent buildings. here's frecheville Library as an example http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Frecheville+Library,+Sheffield&sll=53.348214,-1.401336&sspn=0.004483,0.009334&gl=uk&ie=UTF8&hq=Frecheville+Library,&hnear=Sheffield,+United+Kingdom&ll=53.348214,-1.401331&spn=0.001009,0.004667&t=h&z=18&layer=c&cbll=53.348214,-1.401331&panoid=SDsewgLvA__q4PtkDhQ43g&cbp=11,47.49,,0,1.59 I STR Gleadless library on White Lane was similarly constructed.
