1990 and the poll tax....we had long gone past our sell by date by then.....mind you the late 70s....we had them on the back foot most weekends....

got rid of the poll tax....and the unions.....and gave away loads of nice council houses.....wonder if nick and dave...would give the owls a nice student loan to pay our tax bill....happy days

This is why (I posted several posts ago), personally I'd prefer to see the entire system radically changed into something along the lines of that someone obtains a position/placement with an employer first as a apprentice/trainee or something like that, on a rolling recruitment process, and then attends University to obtain the relevant degree for that position (which will mean they then take up a full time position with the employer once they have graduated).

A doctor needs a degree in medicine BEFORE they can be a doctor.

A lawyer needs a degree in law BEFORE they can be a lawyer.

A student wanting to learn maths to the highest level needs a degree in maths.

A media arts specialist does not need a degree in media arts before they can work in that industry.

A sports worker does not need a degree in sports studies to get a job in the sports industry.

Quite simply some jobs are suited to people starting off at the bottom of the ladder and working their way up. That is the training scheme.

Leave Uni to the professionals and academics.
