Are you wearing a poppy this Rememberance day?

Recommended Posts

A book and a poppy are inanimate objects and both are symbols in their own right.

The plastic poppy is symbolic of men and women who are dead and purchased in remembrance.

The paper book/s are symbolic of a particular belief.

Both are as important, or not as a symbol.

The poppy is a symbol of giving not a belief, you give money they give you a poppy.

It's no different to a Pudsey bear badge.

Did I say that? Equal status under the law is what I ask for. Due to the poppies importance to tens of millions in this nation alone.

In what way are they currently not equal?

There are no specific laws relating to either.

To be honest they probably do have equal status under the law. The issue with the way the met apply the law.

It is reasonable to suggest a non-muslim buring a koran and calling all muslims scum would incite religous hatred against muslims.

It is equally reasonable to suggest a muslim, erroneously claiming to speak for all muslims, burning poppies and saying muslims celebrate every british death would incite religous hatred against muslims.

Both are arrestable, for whatever reason the met seem to treat al muhajiroun and all their sucessor orgs with kid gloves on many occaisons.

I have mixed feelings about wars, especially the ones which suceeded the world wars. They tended to be where western capitalisum and eastern comunisuim meddled in other countrie's afairs and manipulated them to sell arms, take resources and impose their own political and religious views up on. Wars such as Sadam where just about oil, sadam was originally a puppet president representing american interests. Our soilders just end up being used as political porns for money, rather than the defence of our own countries. Hence my mixed feelings. I hate street bralling, no lone conflicts and all out war, but I also understand the need of a country to defend its self. But we haven't really needed to defend ourselves since the 2nd world war. Just get involved in min conflicts where there's alteria motives not disclosed to the general population.

No it's based in fact, not faith as I stated. It's more important to millions in this nation alone than the Koran and that alone should give the poppy equal legal status. Yes?

no,as you said, they are two totaly different things.

Of course the fundraising is very important but the servicemen former and serving that I know all appreciate the number of people who do wear their poppies as a show of support for those who serve or served in the forces. With respect it does mean more then a pudsey bear badge to many.

Yes one has deep meaning to around 50 plus million people in this nation alone. The other has no meaning at all to over 90% of this nations population. That alone should give the poppy equal legal protection from abuse. Yes?

You are buying the poppy symbol in the same way you buy a bible symbol.

Both represent something more than a purchase. A poppy will also be given if you don't have the money...try that in a bookshop. :hihi:

no.

And I also don't think poppies have deep meaning to 50+ million people, I think most people don't care at all.
