miaowwoof
The koran is a religious book with devout followers, a poppy is a symbolic piece of plastic. We have similar laws for the Bible and Christianity but as a country we don't give a stuff about the law or religion. What they did was disgusting willman! willman
What they did was disgusting willman! I never said it wasn't - i was debating why the police allegedly can't stop it but they can burning religious texts.simples.
miaowwoof
But you all miss the point - it does to SOME western modern society it doesn't to the rest of the world. I'm not saying it isn't a valuable symbol,it's just not the same in the eyes of the law. Whether some agree with it or not does not give anyone the right to do what they did! I dont agree with lots of things to do with other peoples beliefs, celebrations etc... But i would never do that!!!! It is NOT justifible whar that group of scumbags did, is it willman!? willman
Can you be prosecuted for burning the Bible or the Koran in this country. I haven't a clue on this one. Not the Bible, since Gordon Brown abolished blasphemy laws, as we're no longer a nation of faith. However under Human Right Acts it keeps rearing its ugly head. Harleyman
I never said it wasn't - i was debating why the police allegedly can't stop it but they can burning religious texts.simples. Cos the authorities are scared stiff of offending Muslims while anything else is open to acts of vandalism in the name of freedom and democracy. There's a double standard plain and simple

There's a double standard plain and simple So what do you plan on doing about it? Nothing - as a country we've let our own Gov't repeal laws on our faith without a blink, we were more concerned with the smoking ban probably. Poppy wearing socialist and fascists caused enough vandalism yesterday in the name of freedom and democracy.
