Bulgarian
But like Obesity, are the 2 highlighted illnesses not self inflicted? Yes, but people don't just wake up one morning and decide to drink themselves to death (AFAIK), it's more complex than that.
foxydebs
It doesn't annoy me anywhere near as much as these increasingly-frequent government noises to 'incentivise' weight loss through financial reward (paid for by the taxpayer, of course). A 'solution' which sounds nearly as effective as 'incentivising' alcooholics to get off the bottle with similar financial rewards, or 'incentivising' druggies to get off the Class A stuff with similar financial rewards, or... I can't see why obese people should not be ostracized to the same extent as smokers, drinkers, etc. generally any "-ers" who choose to self-abuse (I'm a smoker myself, so no holier-than-thou coming from these quarters) I gather you would be against the exercise on prescription scheme that I was a part of then. I am overweight and have various health problems including coeliac disease, migraines, depression, asthma and PCOS. I want to lose weight and am trying to lose weight to help these problems, so my gp refered me to a specialist trainer at Concord leisure centre, who I found very motivational and encouraging, I have lost weight since I have been on this scheme and dropped a clothes size. Now that I am no longer on the scheme (as it lasts 12 weeks, where you get a reduced price at the gym or for swimming) I have become a member of the fitness unlimited scheme and go to either concord or ponds forge, on average I now go to the gym or swimming 2 to 3 times a week which is more than I was doing before, I have noticed that I have more energy and my asthma seems to be improving. I have not been yet this week as I havent been too well with other stuff and I have been working, I work full time shift work, so I have to fit it in around work, so some weeks its less I go and some more, but if it hadnt been for the exercise on prescription scheme motivating and encouraging me I don't think that I would be going at all. By the way Im a taxpayer.

foxforcefive
Every person I know who is fat, is fat as a result of over eating/drinking and not exercising (at all in most cases). Out of the (around) 12 that I know, none of them are headcases or ill, just greedy and lazy.
spiritangel1
Just look at all the fast food outlets,im not saying we cant have a bit of a treat now and again but omg everywhere you go its too easy to get hold of junk food, the pubs sell overprocessed food, mcdonalds, fish and chip shops.chinese take away ect ect.I think we have lost the ability to cook from scratch although i find it as quick if your organised and i work full time,im not saying i dont occasionaly eat junk i do but as other posters have said its all about portion control.I make home made soup for my dinners at work and it takes the time it takes to chop veg, basically a good dinner in half an hour and much cheaper than a tin.Im appalled when i shop the amount of junk in peoples trolleys which i wouldnt touch too much salt, sugar and fats in regurgitated chunks of meat which is supposedly a meat pie bleeeeeeuuuuuuuugh no thanks. TJC1
I agree with you entirely. But society falls over themselves to treat alchoholics and drug addicts and simply label fat people as greedy. Obesity is about MUCH more than eating too much. It is a complex condition, as is alcoholism and drug addiction. It's about time society recognised that fact and helped those suffering rather than labelling them as lazy and greedy. And like drug users or alcoholics a fat person must choose to lose weight- its entirely 100% possible and is not a 'condition' as far as im concerned. Although not debating fat people need support, just like everyone else does.
Funky_Gibbon
Are you serious? Is anoxeria not an illness then? The effects of that are self-inflicted.
