TJC1
More people voted for the Lib Dems and Labour than voted for the Conservatives. The Lib Dems and Labour policies were, rightly or wrongly, for a gradual reduction in the deficit. They have no mandate for these cuts. Exactly right, wasnt it something like 30% of the vote? with a 60% turnout? So in other words something like 75% of people in this country DIDNT vote for the tories and cuts- its a joke. Grahame
That reminds me of Harold Macmillan who said "You have never had it so good." I reckon England was at its peak then and it has been downhill ever since. To my way of thinking this is a similar ominous utterance.

The system we have in this country means we got what we got, whether people like it or not.
esme
Mod Note Please don't use masked swearing, if it won't go through the profanity filter as is, then disguising it by misspelling, using special characters, masking characters with asterisks or spacing the letters so it isn't picked up doesn't make it any better, it just makes work for the moderators who are required to edit out any that they see. Before you start going off on one about mandates....oooppss ....you already did.......read the attached and you may learn something http://www.peoplemandate.com/mandate/what_is_a_mandate.htm Especially the bit which says "No Mandate can be given at an election"
Grandad.Malky
The labour bashers will tell you that in the past Labour won with smaller % votes but that’s how it works in a first past the post system but the whole point is that even with the dice heavily loaded in the Conservatives favour they still couldn’t crawl over the finishing line on their own. You couldnt even crawl over the line if the liberals had joined you.

So you are saying because the conservatives, who play a part of this coalition received 36.1% of the vote, they have no right to govern?
