Serious House Fire in Dronfield

Recommended Posts

My sister, her Husband and 3 children were rescued from a house fire on Friday night. The help of the neighbours who got a ladder and of course the Sheffield Fire and rescue service they were all helped out of an upstairs window to safety. The fire started in the dishwasher about 12.30 at night. They were all asleep upstairs and it was the SMOKE ALARM that woke my sister and her husband. The smoke alarm was UPSTAIRS and not downstairs so the fire had taken a hold by the time the smoke had reached upstairs. They could not get downstairs because of the smoke so went into the front bedroom with all the children and shouted for help. I would like to Thank everyone who helped especially their neighbours and the firemen that attended that evening. Without question the SMOKE ALARM saved all of their lives. It was however in the wrong place and as a result the entire downstairs has been ruined and they have lost most of their possessions BUT they are all safe and that is the main thing.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you do not have a smoke alarm or are not sure if it is in the right place please contact South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service on 0114 2532314. Who will carry out a fire safety risk assessment and fit a smoke alarm (if appropriate)

My sister is my sole mate, best friend and my life (along with my family and hers of course) so it would have been a disaster if the worst had happened. Please let people know that you do not have a sense of smell when you are asleep. Smoke will not wake you but an alarm will Thanks for reading. xx

Hi Sisty,

We have just searched on Google "loss adjuster Dronfield" and you came up top. We clicked and read your warning and both started crying. You and your family mean the world to us and we are so lucky and grateful that we are all alive.

All I can do is repeat what you have said.

"You do NOT have a sense of smell when you are asleep. Smoke will NOT wake you but AN ALARM WILL".

Love Greg and Sarah and Family. xxx

Glad to hear everyone is OK .....it's just a shame that the coucil do not provide spcialist smoke alarms for deaf people (who would not hear a normal alarm). Because, unless they are profoundly deaf, people with hearing imparements have to buy their own. And they are expensive!!!! :(
