UK to offer £7bn loan to Eire

Recommended Posts

Hang on. An £80M loan to Forgemasters is cancelled because "there just isn't any money" Cable/Clegg/Osborne

Where's £7B come from? What's the cost to public services, pay and pensions to fund this?

If the Irish loan is excellent business..... the Forgemasters loan would have been doubly so 'cos the UK government would have received the interest and Forgemasters could have established themselves as world leaders at a critical time........after all the private sector is expected to create a million new jobs

I'd like to hear one of the presenters on the today programme or other news programme put this point to Vince Cable, that we can't lend forgemasters £80 million but can lend Ireland £7 billion, and really press him on the question.

I wonder why none of them has done so?

Our government is lending Ireland the money to safeguard this countries interests, it's plain and simple. Lots of jobs in this country will go if Irelands economy collapses, as it's one of the biggest customers of the UKs goods and services. Our banks would also be in trouble as they also invested heavily in Ireland. Also it's the only country that we share a land border with, so any social unrest would have knock on effects in this country.

Make no mistake about it we are not doing this to be good neighbour, we are doing it for the good of this country.

I think the UKIP bloke has a point, how can we lend when we are borrowing ourselves ?

Because that's politics. UKIP like most politicians hope and expect the general public to consume their <REMOVED>.

We can lend because it's easier for us to borrow at a low rate. A simple example would be we borrow @2% and subsequently reinvest that loan @ 6%.

Exactly

Thats why we have almost forced them to have the loan, whether they like it or not:suspect:

It would be in our national interest to spend all the money we have in this country, creating jobs and generating taxes to help pay off the defecit. The EU isn't going to allow the Irish economy to colllapse.

Exporting services and products is a major driver force for jobs, and Ireland is one of our biggest markets. This action is being took to save jobs here in the UK.

Our Government is in fact doing it to safeguard the City Banksters Interests.

The Irish Banks were and are used as a channel to filter money back to the UK banking system avoiding tax liabilities regulation and scrutiny.
