rubydazzler
its more likely the british troops wouldnt let all the crap carry on that the yanks had turned a blind eye to for an easier lifeI agree with that, certainly. We wouldn't let him dish out jobs for the boys, more than likely and he didn't like it.
Harleyman
As usual someone starts a thread like this and all the bitter rhetoric starts. The Yank haters come out of the woodwork and so it begins. Maybe the Afghans prefer US troops around because the GIs hand out chewing gum, Hershey bars and nylons

Like those really cheap, thin, 4 section ones we used to buy when we couldn't afford a proper bar? How disappointing ... and boring *wonders if this counts as Yank hating in Harleyman's lexicon and hopes not*

The chocolate is darker though. Cant say I ever liked it having grown up with good old Cadburys

LordChaverly
I am far less perturbed by the comments of US officials than I am by the statements of Karzai and his cronies. Allies have a tendency to criticise each other's contributions to a war effort (cf. WW2, when such criticisms were rife. Look up for example the scathing comments of Generals Stillwell and Patton on the British armed forces). What is more troubling is that there seems to be no appreciation at all on the Afghan side for the sacrifices British forces have made. How different this is to, for example, the warm appreciation British troops received in France, Belgium and (especially) Holland at the end of WW2
