quisquose
Last year we suffered significant water ingress into one of our rooms due to ice dams. Something I had not heard of previously. This happens when thawing snow freezes and forms ice dams, so that when the snow starts to thaw again it is prevented from running down the tiles and instead creeps back into the property. This is more likely to effect older properties with no roofing felt, and the damage can be quite significant. We have had some melting over the weekend, and it is now very cold. I suspect there are some ice dams about to inflict some damage at the next thaw as I type. Not wanting this to happen to us again, I spent Saturday clearing the snow from our roof.
