Why is the Queen our "Head of State" ?

Recommended Posts

Odd. Don't actually remember voting for her in my lifetime. She's universally know as the Head of State for the UK but she's never actually elected to the post. Thought we lived in a democracy. Am I missing something here ?

If you don't like it, you could always leave the country. Then again, you would probably have to go out and earn a wage and pay your own rent if you left so just switch the tv off. Your better off not knowing what is going on, after all, we don't want you having a breakdown do we :hihi:

Err, actually I am retired and own my own property. Have you travelled ? I have. A lot of countries around the world enjoy much better standards of living without a monarchy than we currently do. Viva la republic !

Has anyone heard of the Bank of England Nominees Ltd? Apparently this is the holding company the Queen uses to hide her investments.

Since national patriotism seldom exists in the realm of business, I would be interested to know of any conflicts of interest she is involved in for her personal (or her dynasty's) gain. The real power in this world is realised when money changes hands, so all the arguments over whether the queen has political power is nothing but a distraction from the very real influence this highly privileged lady may have in global affairs.

Outside of Britain and the commonwealth countries how many millions of people will be watching the upcoming wedding?

Millions, probably as many as 90 million. British royalty generates a lot of good will even in countries that never had any historical connection with Britain and whether the anti-royals believe it or not brings in a lot money into the country.

What's the alternative? Some colorless little socialist pol with a Bolshie chip on his shoulder? I'm assuming from the mindset of the anti-royals that no one but this kind of individual would be acceptable in the position as Head of State

There are still strong ties between Britain and the old Commonwealth countries. Abolishing royalty would inevitably lead to Canada, Australia and New Zealand becoming republics and drifting away from the mother country not long afterwards.

If some people think that's okay or a matter of indifference I dont. Too me it would be a sad state of affairs

I hope they raise vat to 25% so that the queen can heat every single one of the hundreds of rooms in her beautiful home, after all, she deserves it. It is a horrible winter so raise taxes more dave, maybe student fees to 10k aswell to give our wonderful queen that bit extra this christmas.
