Bloomdido
I can see it happening. By invading Iraq and Afghanistan, the Bush regeime made fatal mistakes. Such a narrow minded take on the world after 9/11 may have cost America dear. http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2010/12/06/america_collapse_2025

Vague_Boy
Debt has brought empires down before. Will America Replay The Fall of the Roman Empire? The Decline of the Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire And America, like the UK, is drowning in debt. Forget PIIGS, US Debt Is Out of Control Personal Debt Out Of Control; U.S. Economy Awash in Debt State Borrowing ‘Out of Control’ It may take a long time, much like Britain's decline during the 20th century but the end of US global hegemony is an immutable certainty. Overlending to people who realy don't like you...that's not going to end pretty.

Such a narrow minded take on the world after 9/11 may have cost America dear. The Bush Administration are all multi-millionaires* and well connected, so they won't be affected by any loss of superpower status. Thing is, the US will control all the oil, except for the Falklands. Are the US gonna invade them next? * (except Condi, maybe that's why there's talk of her running for election) x

hard2miss
We could be the next Saudi Arabia, yeh?No that will be the Argentinians. Without any aircraft carrier/air support, we wouldn't be able to hold onto the Isle of man. With the way we are cutting defence we will end up selling it to them just to earn something out of it instead rather than having it taken. Harleyman
If China ever does become the next world power that does not bode well for the rest of the world. The Chinese are basically selfish self serving people and will only bring their own interests before any others. The only foreign countries that will get aid or help of any kind are those rich in natural resources and they'll get totally screwed down the road However, given the fact that China is so seriously polluted already coupled with the unhealthy and unhygenic conditions that exist in the rural areas and many of the smaller cities I foresee an environmental catastrophe of major proportions resulting in the very real possibilility that some deadly incurabale virus will emerge and not only cripple China but half the rest of the world
