sarahjane
Ha ha. I think after I've won the lotto on Saturday I might look in to it! It does make me wonder though why no one has done something like this. At least then the public would have a choice.

andygardener
Over here Craigslist has become very popular for selling. There is no cost. You are totally on your own using it so proceed with caution. People looking for specialist items know to look on craigslist first. Ebay own about 30% of craigslist though so don't expect it to stay free forever.
spooky3
Your best bet would be to start off with something like SheffieldBay, YorkshireBay or BritainBay, you know the nation would get behind something big! Only note, don't put BAY in the name!

beansforyou
There was Yahoo Auctions, many years ago, which was very very popular indeed. No fees, easy to use. Then Ebay bought them out, around the same time Ebay came over the the UK (ebay.com was around for quite a while before the sub-divisions such as co.uk and .ie etc). It was a very sad day when Yahoo closed. There was also blokedownthepub or something, but that never took off either. Once Ebay bought out Paypal, that was the nail in the coffin really.
