A student on News 24 said that the Lid Dems would now be finished as a party and so I was wondering, as not all Lib Dem voters are students, just how many would actually vote for them in future elections.

Im not wanting a debate about politics and Labour/Tory bashing, but just an Idea of whether there could be any substance in the students claim.

A large number of students voted for the Lib Dems at the last election, and in previous elections, as a direct result of one of their priority targets being to scrap tuition fees, and to stand against any rises. Lib Dem candidates were directly targetting students to gain votes, and did a lot of work at the last election to ensure students were aware they could vote for candidates at their home and term addresses. They were very keen to be seen as supporting students, culminating in the now infamous pledge against tuition fee rises.

The only people who would vote Lib Dem again are the ones who are too old and bigoted to admit making a mistake.

Why did you tick the box to make votes public when you made the poll?

I think this is true.

My own thought on it is that the Tories caved into the Lib Dems about the alternative vote because it was the key issue to any coalition Govt with them or Labour, and as the only Party to benefit fro the alternative vote system would be the Lib Dems and not Tories they have made them shoot themselves in the foot by getting them to bring in this policy.

Its actually quite a cunning ploy, give with one hand and then make the recipient throw it away with the other.
