Should the army be brought in to control violent demonstrations

Recommended Posts

There was an agreed route for the protest, the students, socialist and anarchist groups tried to go another way, knowing full well they wouldn't be allowed (but that's why they came pre-armed). Then after sustained attack from the rioters, the Police reacted.

The word 'kettling' was used quite early on, however at the same time they were reporting and you could hear magneto-phones announcing that peaceful protesters could still follow the originally planned route. Those left were trouble causers.

The horse charge did not harm anyone from what I saw.

As for the guy in the wheelchair, looks pretty out of order from what I can see. If I was in a wheelchair though, I know I wouldn't be heading towards the front line of a riot!

Well sh*t, I guess that makes it ok then.

But, just watching The Wright Stuff, i'm for the students protesting (not rioting (whoever)).

What about next time, say we'll meet at X and stay there, no need to kettle us because we've got no intention of going anywhere. You'll spot the trouble causers because they won't be at the rally point!

1984....Orgreave.......a friend who lives in the Penistone area saw them arrive on bus's,change into police uniforms and get into police van's.......are you so naive to think it didn't happen?

There are many old wives tales regarding what went off at the time, having three nephews serving in HM Forces at that time I'm sure it would have been more publicised, they never mentioned it, they told us much about Northern Ireland, the Falklands and the Gulf conflict goings on.

Dustbin comes comes to mind again you'll take owt in if its against the west or our government.

Oh and BTW foregot to say my brother was a policeman on those picket lines and like me an ex-serviceman he never mentioned it either although he did mention about Scargill asking to be allowed to carry a firearm due to the threats he was receiving.

Good old 'hearsay':hihi: Are there any pictures of them changing into police uniforms? Is there any actual evidence? Are you sure they were not Martians?

Do you think we are naive enough to think it did happen?

Your friend is mistaken.

They were probably police officers from another force changing into suitable clothing from that which they had travelled in.
