Headteacher;questionable behaviour

Recommended Posts

They asked for three pieces of information.I keep all certificates in one folder;I was unwise to do this in retrospect but assumed some integrity on behalf of the PA in question. If I told my son to take 3 X £5 from my wallet I would not expect him to clear the wallet.I did not apply to be a porn actor and why would that affect a job application.Did you miss out for such reasons?

You assumed the PA would carefully think about each document before opening it. You assumed the PA would do this because it was obvious. You assumed a letter in an envelope would be obviously out of bounds. In reality other people only send the relevant documents leading the PA to believe they must be relevant too. Never assume anything.

Unless the mistakenly opened letters contain damning information deeming you unfit for the job who really gives a s**t?

I can -the school requested three documents which I placed at the front of the folder for ease of access. The other items were various letters and certificates quite unrelated to the job.References were sent under separate cover and not required;any reference to be read would be addressed to the school and not to myself.

You gave them a whole folder full of documents when they didn't need them  And then you're surprised that they looked at them?

I wouldn't get too bothered about it.

It was a genuine mistake, no harm done. Taking action against the school (although I've no idea what type of 'action' you are planning) would be an over reaction and inappropiate especially if you want the job.

To be honest I'm not sure you are suitable for a job in a school if this is your reaction to a genuine mistake. Goodness knows how you will react when a pupil misbehaves.

Let me get this right.

The OP gave a folder to a potential employer including these letters that clearly had something in them that would do him no good.

He then moans because the employer read the letters that he gave them.

It is not acceptable to raise the matter during an interview where all candidates must face identical questions. It should have been raised after the interview as several headteachers have confirmed.

Crap. Are you really trying so say a head can't ask what he needs to know when deciding who is best to do an important job in his school.

If Gary Glitter applied would the head have to ask all potential employees if they had ever faced the death penalty for shagging kids in Asia?

I wonder what was in those letters that killed his chances.

It sounds like the head dude made the right decision in dumping the OP.

To the OP, if the letter was a piece of supporting documentation that would have helped your application, would have you complained if the PA didn't acknowledge it?

The truth is, the PA wasn't to know what information that you handed to him/her was relevant and what wasn't relevant, and they'd have probably assumed that you'd managed to make that judgement call yourself. Unlucky.

I was being interviewed for a teaching job today when the head produced a photocopied letter sent to me by another professional. This letter had been opened and photocopied by his PA ;the lettter was in a folder in which the key documents were placed at the front(i.e. passport.Degree and teaching certificates,QTS and GTC membership,.)The PA must have gone through all the other documents and taken them from their envelopes.I think this is illegal and quite immoral.I plan to take legal action against the school over this intrusive behaviour. What do you suggest? It may have affected my chances of getting a job.

Mr Chips

I am quite certain that I am fit to do the job as I already have such a job.You are presumably well-qualifed to make such a call. The PA only needed the first three items and I did point that fact out to the PA.the PA has also apologised for her error and this has been accepted. It is not acceptable to raise the matter during an interview where all candidates must face identical questions. It should have been raised after the interview as several headteachers have confirmed.

If the PA has apologised for the error and you accepted the apology, then on what grounds do you intend to sue the school?
