plekhanov
Yes lets all laugh at those French buffoons for their failure to take Bush & Blair's word for it that Iraq had WMD and therefore must be invaded
Alcoblog
That quote was by Groundskeeper Willie from the Simpsons. And is not a particularly accurate description of a nation who lost 5.5 million men in ww1,over 76% of their forces. The British Empire forces lost 36%. Anyone who has been to France cannot help but be moved by the war memorials in every town and village bearing surnames repeated over and over, recording the loss of whole families of brothers, fathers and uncles. Nice one shane! ... I agree! We just have people weeing on and swinging off the flags of war monuments in our country! I was dead moved to watch the prog on the Sheffield blitz the other night ... now we moan about the dangers posed by conkers falling off trees and the dangers involved in pulling Christmas crackers! Harleyman
Completely unfair and unjustified. Looking back on the French military they had one of the best armies in the world under Napoleon and during the First World War their soldiers fought honorably and courageously, stopping the Germans dead and losing a lot of men with it. All this rubbish deriding the French army comes from the first year of WW2. Bad leadership contributed to the defeat in 1940 not the incompetence or lack of courage of the individual French soldier. The British army did hardly any better either barely escaping intact from the beaches of Dunkirk.
pinner
But escape they did. Wonder where the French were at the time?
Kidorry
All of which is quite odd when you remember that the French have won more battles, and more wars, than any other country in history - even us. I am not saying you are wrong but that takes a bit of believing when you think about the Romans and Alexander.

shanes teeth
But escape they did. Wonder where the French were at the time? Probably forming the resistance who fought bravely undercover suffering terrible retribution with no protection from international conventions. Berberis
I like the Blackadder Goes Forth quote that goes, "For three years the line was about as likely to move as a Frenchman living next door to a brothel" or there abouts.
