andygardener
Story here - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/road-and-rail-transport/8215103/High-speed-rail-line-will-be-pleasing-to-look-at.html It's a railway line - it'll look like a railway line. How is that going to be made pleasing to look at? (unless for some reason you like looking at railway lines)
Frumius
I have a friend who lives on the proposed route of the nrw line. The good folks of Buckinghamshire have not been this united since fox hunting was outlawed.
garrence
Maybe it will have impressive viaducts instead of ugly concrete ones.
Greybeard
Depends on your point of view really, - some people find white elephants nice to look at, most people probably don't care.
vwkittie
Have they actually polled everyone to find out if we do really WANT to all be hurtled towards London at the speed of light? I think the money would be better spent on improving high speed broadband provision and that sort of thing, to reduce the numbers of people needing the travel in the first place. It would also make many, many women happier as their OH's would shout at the Xbox less
Fishcake
If it is going really fast, how will we know it is pleasing to look at? Surely it will just be a funny blur!
Cynic
I think most people are in favour of this as long as the route doesn't disturb them and they are near a station.
epiphany
"Many Conservative MPs and voters in the area of the planned route are opposed to the planned construction, due to begin in 2016" Surely we'll all have high speed hover boards by then anyway? High speed hover boards, what planet are you on? We'll just teleport from one place to another.
perplexed
Technology needn't be ugly. There's that huge bridge over a gorge somewhere in the south of France which is stunning. (Norman Foster designed it I believe.) And in a lot less obvious way, lets not forget that chunks of the Peak District looks as they do because man has fiddled with it for centuries...
