mj.scuba
spooky3 - thanks for posting this it sounds really interesting, I'll be tuning in. I thought 'Christmas Lectures' were going to be something religious but then I read this from following your link, should be a good show.

spooky3
With all the rubbish on TV over Christmas, this is the most sane the kids will get! Other people i've informed have all exclaimed, "only 3 episodes" and "8pm, it's supposed to be for kids". (The audience is all kids!) I normally use it to get the kids interested in science, but no, i'll have to spend my time arguing how a sonic screwdriver is pretty ridiculous and can't do everything it is shown as being able to! Cheers to the BBC Shopping Channel... Best in the world!
discodown
I used to watch these every year, they were always good. I seem to remember Jonny Ball doing them one year but that can't be right.

I too seem to remember this, but according to this list it appears not! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Institution_Christmas_Lectures#List_of_Christmas_Lectures He should have been chosen because he has great enthusiasm and style... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Ball
medusa
I have watched the Christmas lectures for at least the last 30 years, but finding where they have been televised each year hasn't been that easy since they moved from their original home on BBC2. In terms of education, they're fabulous for firing up imaginations and providing a gateway to sciences of all sorts. They're the perfect antidote to all of the dross that's on TV at Christmas. Not only is Fatboy Slim his dad but Jonny Ball is his grandad. How cool must that be?
