corsaman132
Is it carb or injection model? If carb, could be ice in carb/jets. Just read last post-ignore my post!!

corsaman132
Does sound like a fuel problem-pump/filter/carb. I would change the fuel filter first(cheapest) Then stick some carb cleaner in(next cheapest) Check fuel pump OR......... Check plugs/leads Had an old Sierra once-ran like a dog and cutting out from cold until it had dried out, turns out the was a small splits in two plug leads!! Fantomas
I've got a Polo from around the same time and get the same happening. It happens mostly when the weather is colder/wetter, when I come to a stop at a junction heading downhill I find. It starts again immediately with no problems. It's been happening for years, I've just gotten used to it. Searched online several times for probable causes and though it seems like lots of people have the same issue I've not been able to find a definitive answer. Apart from that the car is absolutely sound.

corsaman132
Try(as a temporary solution) tightening the accelerator cable up a touch(when engine is warm),they can go a bit slack over the years. I would still do the filter change etc..
