matsalleh
I've got a Polo from around the same time and get the same happening. It happens mostly when the weather is colder/wetter, when I come to a stop at a junction heading downhill I find. It starts again immediately with no problems. It's been happening for years, I've just gotten used to it. Searched online several times for probable causes and though it seems like lots of people have the same issue I've not been able to find a definitive answer. Apart from that the car is absolutely sound. I had an Audi coupe used to do that usually when pulling out in front of a lorry.New Carb fitted, ran on a diagnostic computer for 3 hours no fault found. This was about the time of VW/Audi merger.I did hear of a lot of polos having this problem.Never found a cure for mine. Longcol
My wife had exactly the same problem with an old mondeo. Turns out it was a hole in an air intake hose.

mad-dad
I am hoping a mechanic on here can help me with some possible reasons for my car to suddenly start cutting out randomly. Started this morning, once, whilst stopped at idle speed. Started immediately and got me to work okay (2 miles). Cut out again on way home exactly as above. Then it cut out three quarters of the way up Cooks Wood Rd whilst running at about 2000 rpm. Started first time and got me home okay (1 mile). Before switching off I noticed the revs were fluctuating between approx. 700-800 rpm. Anyone any ideas please? It is a petrol Fiat Stilo by the way and I have used carb cleaner in it recently.
