Muslims never used violence or force to push non Muslims to convert to Islam. Muslims were in control of India over one thousand years and never obliged Indians to convert to Islam. The same is true in Spain. The spread of Islam was (and till present) through free will of people. This is absolute nonsense. From its inception, Islam has been a proselytising religion. Muslims were never in control of the whole of India because of Hindu and Sikh resistance to the mogul campaigns of conquest. It is also a complete myth that the muslim Arab presence in Spain was benign. Moreover, if the spread of Islam has, as you contend, resulted from the free will of the people, why is the punishment for apostacy in Islam death? It reminds me of apologists for the Soviet tyranny, who made a similar case when people remarked on the Soviet threat. No-one is suggesting that all Moslems are murderers. But if Islam commands all Moslems to use violence against unbelievers, it is insane to presume blithely, without any attempt at evidence or reason, that all people who call themselves followers of Islam will ignore this. If that was the case, then you would have anarchy around the world.. I don't see billions of muslims going out their way using violence day in day out 'because Islam commands them'....
