Eventually the demolition & redevelopment of the Grosvenor site will occur, it's only been delayed by the recession.

The developers would rather the tenants surrender leases themselves (by going bust, deciding to relocate of their own volition) than have them in occupancy when it's time to send the bulldozers in as if they still have time to run on the lease and there is no break clause for the landlord then they would have to pay out to get rid of the tenants.

That's assuming that all the units are on long leases still, any requiring renewal will have been put onto monthly arrangements so it's easy to get them out.

I know of one unit there that has just been given a 6 year lease...

This is looking like the last ditch saloon for the Cas.it might not make it until the end of january!if any1 is interested in keeping this piece of sheffield history open then i suggest frequenting it more regular and putting some money through the doors so the amazingly high rent of £3000 a week can be met!or if any1 knows the consortium who now rent out these buildings until there's an upturn in the property market and redevelopment of the area begins again then ask them how they work their figures out!surely a lower rent would be better than no rent at all????

£3000 a week? Jesus christ. That part of town is desolate, you'd have thought that someone, somewhere at the council would realise that lowering the rent for businesses to temporarily trade whilst they decide what to do with it would actually bring in more money than keeping the crazy high prices. I've never understood why landlords would rather have shops and units kept empty rather than lower the price to get in a tenant...
