Honeycomb
Another woman here who hates the place. I go about once or twice a year, and only if I can't get what I need from town. I cannot believe that anyone could possibly enjoy shopping, yet we keep hearing it's the nation's favourite leisure activity. I loathe it so much that I have to reward myself after a certain number of shops visited/items purchased. Depending on the time of day, this is usually a coffee, lunch or glass of wine somewhere nice. Or just a sit down with a newspaper. All these distractions are easier in town and at least you can breathe fresh air between shops. So Meadowhell it is.
scentral
The last time I went to Meadowhell, the security people stopped me from going in - I didn't have a pushchair! Seriously, the average people who shop at Meadowhell just reflect society today - like the people who are seen on DFS adverts wearing Ugg boots in the house and thinking they're sooo trendy having bought a crap, plasicky 'sofa'. Include people who go to the Next sale and walk round with Next's carrier bags as if they'd just been to Harvey Nicks. Next used to be OK (about 20 years ago), but is now only slightly above Primark. laineyiow
On the occasions that I come to Sheffield to visit relatives I ALWAYS have a trip to Meadowhall. I just love wandering around it and also the fact that it is opened quite late. That is one of the things I do miss living on the Isle of Wight. All the shops here are closed by 5.00pm (well, apart from Poundland and Pound Stretcher!) and I used to love to be able to go shopping after work. Now its such a rush in the lunch break or on a Saturday when everybody else is doing their shopping too. Wouldn't be so bad if we had one "late night" shopping day but we don't even get that. So just think yourselves lucky that you can get to do your shopping when you choose to do it and that you have the CHOICE of so many shops under one roof! Miss_C
I just call it Meadowhall, but I hardly ever go there anyway, haven't been since awhile before Christmas, but I wouldn't have wanted to go when it was that busy anyway!
Gordonb
Do people not remember when there were crowds in town worse than Meadowhell. Places like the Moor you used to have to go with the flow or walk in the gutter. There was always a huge crowd waiting to cross High Street at the top of Snig Hill/Angel Street with police having to hold them back whilst a bobby in a long White coat waved on the traffic.
