Isabelle
We fixed ours ourselves, it wasn't flushing because the diaphragm was broken inside the cistern and there was no suction. We had to get a whole new flushing system because they didn't have one at Wickes that would fit. We got a new mechanism which uses a plug and chain instead of the traditional ballcock system. It was quite easy to fit and should last longer.

the_rudeboy
It's not that tricky (or expensive) to replace the mechanism yourself.
Isabelle
I think it cost us about £40, but we did replace the flush handle with a push button, which cost a bit more. I think it was about £25 for the new flush mechanism.
