A debate is needed about changing the prostitution laws, the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) has said.

Deputy Chief Constable Simon Byrne, Acpo's lead on prostitution and sexual exploitation, has also called for the funding of a national database of men suspected of attacking sex workers.

End quote.

Legalize it, clean it up get rid of pimps and druggies, proper medical checks. you will then find like in most other countries that have legalized it that drug abuse and std transmission is down and that the women who want to work in that profession do it for themselves not for some pimp or drug dealer and they are safer.

It needs to be legalised because sweeping it under the carpet for millenia hasn't worked and has resulted in many thousands of deaths. The prostitutes are someone's sister, mother, daughter, cousin, aunt, friend and neighbour and deserve protection in the same way every one of us deserves.

good points. HIV is spreading like hell coz people think of it as a third world disease. they could get some sort of 'license' renewable every six months or whatever and they have to have been cleared at the hospital or something.

let's hope civility prevails here.

I don't think HIV is passed on from prostitutes. Not all professional ladies (*cough*) carry STDs let alone HIV.

You may find that one or two of the professionals has it, but I don't believe it's widespread.

it's not widespread among the professionals, maybe. but its epidemiology is such that the man (usually) goes back home, sleeps with his wife/girlfriend then on and on. with the break up and such you can see how it'd work.

but you have a point, people generally tend to be more careful dealing with professionals.

didn't mean ALL prostitutes carry STIs.

that's rubbish, I personally know of a couple of decent girls who were groomed/ suckered into prostitution by scummer, deceitful boyfriends.

I'm sure the mother of the seventeen year old girl, Fiona Ivison, who was coerced/groomed into drugs and prostitution, then murdered by a client, in Doncaster, in 1993 will be comforted by your comment.

not to forget all those from other countries who are duped into it with the promise of work.

Should have been done years ago.
