banjodeano
I have just taken delivery of my new washing machine and it only has one water inlet connection, (cold water)..is this normal.? i thought every washing machine had a hot and cold, surely it is more economical to take the hot water from the boiler instead of an internal filament warming it up
Greybeard
Seems to be normal now for washing machines to be cold fill only. I did read the reason for this once but can't now remember what it was.
Mecky
Yeah I only have one pipe connection and that's to the cold tap
Swan_Vesta
Yup, perfectly normal. Just seal off the hot water feed with a cap and that white tape and Bob's your uncle.
banjodeano
I was considering saying stuff it and thought about connecting to the hot water, but decided to err on the side of caution..
Swan_Vesta
The cap's very little money from the likes of B&Q or Wickes and a piece of cake to fit ..... Best to follow the instructions.

chimay
When I got my washing machine I'm sure it came with a cap for the hot water pipe. I certainly don't remember having to buy one in the middle of setting up the new machine.
e barker
I was told by Comet that it is more economical to fill from cold, than to fill up with heated water, that then requies cooling to get it to the required temp.
RichD
I think it has to do with their ability to state a given energy efficiency rating. If the machine was hot & cold fill, the efficiency would vary according to the efficiency of the boiler it was attached to. If it heats the water itself, they can state the efficiency much more accurately. Or I could be miles off the mark...
