Tony Erikson
You couldn't be more wrong. If speculation on SF is noticed on a national level should we be discussing anything on a national level. Perhaps you have found the flaw in general discussion.
Grandad.Malky
... We speculate on all kinds of major national news, yet every now and again someone decides that a given topic is verboten and shall not be talked about. It's just inconsistent, which is probably the most important complaint ever made about moderating. But they don’t all involve ongoing court cases do they. Cyclone
Lots of them involve ongoing investigations (like this one, no one's gone to court yet have they?).
Titanic99
In legal terms what does being released on bail mean? Is the landlord still the suspect and they are struggling to find the evidence to charge, or is he effectively free but must stay in the area for possible further questionning. Twiglet
In legal terms what does being released on bail mean? It means they don't have enough evidence to charge him, but he must return to the police station for further questioning if requested.

What the police actually said was: "Naturally we ask the public to continue to take the usual safety precautions. Lone women should avoid walking home alone after dark and householders should keep their premises secure and take care when answering the door to strangers." HeadingNorth
In legal terms what does being released on bail mean? Is the landlord still the suspect ... His arrest doesn't even confirm that he was a suspect. They may have arrested him merely in order to trawl through his computer records or some such. Release on bail just means they don't care to charge him yet but haven't completely eliminated him from the investigation. (Which they hardly could, since he is the owner of the property involved.) It does confirm he was a suspect as the reason for his arrest was on suspicion of murder. That doesn't mean that he did it, or even that they'll charge him with anything, but he was a suspect at the time of his arrest.
alchresearch
I do like the way the media have managed to manipulate this one. What the police actually said was: Yep. After reading the headlines the past few days the media have pretty much judged and hung the guy and the other neighbour.
