AmyR
Car a bit smokey than normal from exhaust- i think it's burning oil as having to top oil up (1ltr every 3 weeks). Any suggestions on why it is doing it or how can get fixed as don't think will pass upcoming MOT test. thanks
Squiggs
Piston rings could be shot, or valve seals amongst other possible causes You could try an oil change and adding Stop Smoke to the oil (you can also just add this without the oil change), re-treat with the same stuff when you do change the oil. Depending on the cause it may just be treating the symptoms rather than the cure, so whilst it may get you that MOT this time around.....
medusa
If it's burning oil then that suggests that there's something pretty fundamental wrong with your engine, potentially piston related or your cylinder head gasket which could cost a pretty penny to replace. The gasket is only a few pounds, but the labour of getting down through your engine, cleaning everything up and putting it all back again can run to several hundred pounds, depending on the make and model of car. What is it, how old is it and how much is it worth?

ging viking
Does the car smoke from the start and stop smoking after about 10 mins or so? If it stops it will be the valve stem seals. If the car smokes all of the time its is more than lightly the piston rings and that means the engine is knackered to be honest. Are you loosing water as well ? Check your water level and take the oil filler cap off the rocker cover and see if oil and water are mixing creating a browny colored gunk. If so it may be the head gasket. puddinburner
One of the seals in engine may have gone? Blue oily smelling smoke means it's literally burning oil which means leak from engine somewhere. Could be head gasket sumat simple? Roman ridge garage drive it gently dont rev it and he'll tell ya. Give advice cos he's good x having same prob with ours.
