How much would car insurance have to go up by - before you drive uninsured?

Recommended Posts

I wanted to buy a certain car earlier this year, but unfortunately the insurance was coming in at £900 for just the one car (we paid just under £1K for two cars) so I had to settle for a different one. I will have to wait a bit longer to get the car I wanted, until I'm a bit older and have more no claims.

Sometimes you have to compromise.

Have you tried multicar insurance?

uninsured drivers really wind me up, couple of years ago i was hit by one, wrote the car off, because he legged it and it took the police an hour to turn up, they never caught him, i got spanked by the insurance company for something that wasn't my fault, so dont tell me the police are actively chasing these people :rant:

With bad weather and, more importantly, the increased medical claims car insurance companies are paying out £120 for every £100 they take in premiums. The average increase in car insurance over the last year is 39%.

If you drive uninsured and injure someone you could be financially ruined for the rest of your life, only lowlife scum drive uninsured.

I have an issue with a few of your points. Firstly, my other half and I both own performance vehicles, both of us paying around £1000 insurance as the cars are group 20. Neither of us are crap drivers, quite the opposite in fact.

Secondly, in order to keep miles off these vehicles, we run a mark 6 escort. It's value is probably around the £500 mark, and it has done 60k and is immaculate, yet I have seen more expensive cars that are not cared for and more deserving of the title 'piles of junk'. I have been a car enthusiast for quite a few years now, and I loved and cared for my £1000 fiesta, just as much as the more expensive cars I own now.

On the topic of the OP, I am getting to a stage where I am considering my options with regard to insurance premiums. I am paying around my limit of what I am prepared to pay now, and I'm concerned that when renewal comes, I am going to either be forking out more, or selling my pride and joy and getting into something a bit more sensible.

I knew when I bought into performance cars, I would be priced out of it at some point by the government. The problem is not just premiums, it's the huge fuel hikes that have gone on and the VAT rise which will inevitably increase everything else we have to pay for.

As my points were addressed to the OP and not to you I'm not really sure why you think my comment has any bearing on your situation, other than your need to tell folks about your upmarket cars.

However addressing your situation is simple. If you can't afford them, then don't drive them.

By the way. It was interesting how your Escort turned into a Fiesta mid post. Perhaps you could turn your "performance cars" into small hatchbacks just as easily thus avoiding the trade in.

My points were relevant to the discussion, where as yours were misinformed and aggressive.

I am shocked at the increase in beer prices and am considering shoplifting my beer from now on. It's tough on the shopkeeper, the same as stealing money from his wallet, but what am I supposed to do if the price of something is more than I am willing to pay? Well?

There is no wonder we are becoming known as the rip-off capitol of the world. With this level of apathy, I guess a future government could introduce any tax they want - based on any made up grounds, and people will pay it - because its the law.

That's how tax works yes.

You have your chance to object the next time an election is called.

No they weren't unless you think the OP is moaning that his Aston Martin is too expensive to insure so he intends not bothering with insurance.

It is a shame that you can't afford your own performance car insurance, but never mind you have your Fiescort to fall back on.
