TheGuy
I wonder why this thread has been resurrected all of a sudden. Ah yes, the tories are losing in the opinion polls and are currently on course to a landslide defeat, so the RW bullies are here again trying to influence public opinion. The general election is three years away isn't it??
Mecky
The general election is three years away isn't it?? It sure is, that's why the tories, knowing they are weak and unpopular, introduced the minimum 5 year term.
Mecky
Looks like you're wrong with this poll http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/ Doesn't look like it, Lab 20% projection and yesterday with William Hills lab were 6-4 to win with a landslide victory. Sorry to rain on your parade and that.
LeMaquis
It sure is, that's why the tories, knowing they are weak and unpopular, introduced the minimum 5 year term. That would be why Labour waited 5 years after 2005 before holding the next general election in 2010.
Mecky
That would be why Labour waited 5 years after 2005 before holding the next general election in 2010. But you do understand the difference between minimum and maximum?
LeMaquis
But you do understand the difference between minimum and maximum? The new 5 year rule isn't a minimum. It's a maximum just like before. A general election can still be held early if the government loses a vote of confidence or a Commons vote calls for an election, subject to a certain majority. Gordon Brown was too frightened to go to the country in less than 5 years as he was a disaster and he knew he'd lose. 29% of the vote remember. You seem to ignore the fact that Labour were a disaster and you only got 29%.
Conrod
This doesn't necessarily mean that most people would believe they are deserving of what they are paid. It does mean that some skills are valued by employers more than others, maybe that is what should be changed. So is it wrong for employers to value some skills above others? Perhaps we should pay a floorsweeper, who has not dedicated years of his life to training and professional development, the same as we pay a barrister or a heart surgeon? Damn the evils of elitism, eh?
