Left or Right.. politically.

In fact this is often quoted as coming from Churchill, but I'm not 100% sure it does.

Wikiquote references it:

Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy.

Speech (May 28, 1948 ) at the Scottish Unionist Conference, Perth, Scotland, in Never Give In! : The best of Winston Churchill’s Speeches (2003), Hyperion, p. 446 ISBN 1401300561

You know if you put your response in front of a mirror its correct :hihi:

1979 - Conservative win and has to clean up the mess left by Labour.

1983 - Conservative win despite recession in 1980-1982.

1987 - Conservative win.

1992 - Conservative win despite recession 1990-1992.

1997 - Labour win, Conservatives lose due to sleaze.

2001 - Labour win.

2005 - Labour win.

2010 - Conservative/Lib Dem defeat Labour due to recession in 2008-9.

I see a pattern here. As soon as the economy goes into recession, labour **** it up and the conservatives then take office (with Lib Dems in 2010) to fix the problem, however when a conservative government is in power, the population seems happy with their handling of the crisis.

In 1997 the UK economy was growing well while debt was falling. There was no mess and Labour came to power on the wave left by the conservatives. Of course they blamed anything negative on the previous government and they dined out on that for about 5 years, before claiming credit for the global bubble that burst thoroughly killing off any chances Labour had of winning the next election.

What?

(No i'm not a labour fan, or a tory)

Arh, I bow to your mastery of wikifu :)

I wouldn't see it as sour grapes though, considering he had been the PM at a time of fighting the Nazi's which were in fact the National Socialist German Workers' Party and was now faced with the threat from the Communist block.

Whatever Tory boy, I see one too. It means Labour had to spend heavily to get the country up and running again since the Tories always run the entire nation to a full stop by selling off everything and slashing public spending, so much so, the country can no longer function. This generally leads to riots.

So Labour won in 1997 because the country could no longer function and there were riots? Is history not your strong point or something? The largest riots happened due to the poll tax (something which is almost universally considered to be fairer then the council tax system we now have) and that was in 1990. The conservatives won the next election.

State run organisations where sold off as they where not profitable and cost us all more money. Some have been successful while others have been less so, but if this is the holy grail of Labour why did they do nothing about it for the 13 years they had power?

In any case, you cant educate those who feel it is a badge of honour to be ignorant of the facts. I suggest if you are hard of thinking you do some research and write it down just so you can relearn it every few weeks.

And what about your history, the wicked witch of Westminster set out to systematically break the working classes while bleating her father was a humble grocer when he actually owned a chain of supermarkets. Not only did she get of the mines, in the process she sent many small businesses (including grocers) to the wall as well as they were in miniing villages. So much for being for those who try to make something of themselves:roll::roll:

It does not matter, there were riots. You know I am right but you just don't want to accept it. What is it that you're scared of losing? And another thing, there is one word which jumps out in your rant and that word is, "profitable." Services are run for the good of the country, not to make a profit for someone.
