Left or Right.. politically.

And what about your history, the wicked witch of Westminster set out to systematically break the working classes while bleating her father was a humble grocer when he actually owned a chain of supermarkets. Not only did she get of the mines, in the process she sent many small businesses (including grocers) to the wall as well as they were in miniing villages. So much for being for those who try to make something of themselves:roll::roll:

2 shops is not a chain

It does not matter, there were riots. You know I am right but you just don't want to accept it. What is it that you're scared of losing? And another thing, there is one word which jumps out in your rant and that word is, "profitable." Services are run for the good of the country, not to make a profit for someone.

So you attribute the poll tax riots of 1990 with the conservatives losing the 1997 election do you?

I'm not cared of anything. We have a competent government not hell bent on destroying the country. This government is cutting at 1% less then Labour, but blinkered people like you will moan and complain totally forgetting who got us in the mess in the first place.

I'm jubilant, the country is being sorted out :)

wasn't there an election between those two dates which the conservatives won

Only because John Major fought such a good campaign (and his opponent had a lot of baggage) and managed to hold on to just enough traditional Tories to gain a slim majority. However, it took only six months for the party to revisit the splits of the late eighties and to be fair it was all downhill from there.

The point being was that people (except the ravers and new agers) didn't feel forced to riot like they did under Thatcher. Everyone could see the Tories' days were numbered.

Bribe a few people for votes with something that will benfit for them for a short time before taking it away from them again or at least reshuffling it around. It's the old Tory principal, "I'll have some of that."

John Major went on to win the following election, so he couldn't have been all that bad he also left an economy in good shape despite the economical problems while he was in office and anyone who denies this is trying to rewrite history for political gain.
