Will the VAT rise alter your spending habits?

If you read the article it states that he pays tens and tens of millions in taxes right here in the UK. Do you pay that much?

It states that he conned the tax payer out of £285M by paying the Arcadia dividend to his wife. Do you think he was right to do this?

He didn't con anyone. It was perfectly legal. If it wasn't legal then the tax authorities would have prosecuted him.

these things are all relative, but he is a much better contributer to british society than all the scroungers who take take take from the taxpayer.

Would have though he'd had enough already and would have been pleased to put a bit back into the UK govt coffers.

The point is surely that these decisions about how much tax HE decides he's going to pay, should be taken out of his hands and these loopholes closed, so the govt can maximise it's tax take to lift us out of the situation caused by the credit crunch.

If he thought he'd had enough, he would stop employing people and not bother to work. I suspect he feels he pays more than his "fair share" to the coffers.

The point is: he doesn't decide - he pays what he has to. No one is going to volunteer to pay more tax than they have to. Do you?

Exactly that's why the rules should be tightened up so that he HAS to pay his dues.

heh sorry but no - if you dodge tax but are rich they will usually try to come to an agreement with you, which usually involves you paying less tax.

No- the tax authorities persue people who can pay - those with money who are evading tax.
