Miss_S_83
I know things haven't been great jobs-wise over the last year or two but any idea how to search for a job in Sheffield these days? The jobs section here is mainly people wanting tradesmen etc, the Sheffield Star jobs section (online) is nowhere near as good as it used to be, and is mainly employment agencies from what I can see... The Job Centre website that is now on Directgov is equally as bare these days, there's nowt on the council website, nowt at Asda, HMV, 4 jobs in Meadowhall, none in Crystal Peaks (according to all their websites)... I just wondered if anyone knows of any office/admin jobs going or retail jobs, and where the hell to find them these days Thanks
Leah-Lacie
Primark at Meadowhall is usually very easy to get a job in

Miss_S_83
It's really worrying, I don't necessarily need a job NOW but forward-thinking I decided to have a look and am scared!
ow do
dont be too worried if you have just started looking. this is always a very quiet time of year for jobs and it wont really pick up until the end of the month, maybe even feb. from summer onwards the market did pick up and there were quite a few jobs around at the time (depending on what you were looking for) but a jobs a job. in the mean time get yourself a good CV together and start doing the ground work. register with a few on line companies who will market your CV for you, monster, my sheffield jobs etc, try sending out your CV and a basic letter to people you may like to work for or in the areas you are interested in working in. keep an eye out in local papers or online and keep in touch with friends and family to see if they know of anything. good luck

Nataliie
Mysheffieldjobs.co.uk is a very good website, I think I've got all of my jobs through that or Monster.

Salvatore
Admin: http://www.reed.co.uk, http://www.gumtree.com, http://www.mysheffieldjobs.co.uk, and http://www.jobsite.co.uk. Used to work at Jobcentre Hillsborough (I know I'm gonna get flak for that ) and personal experience, even I wouldn't recommend http://www.direct.gov.uk. It's the most used form of looking for work, so going with specialised sites usually gives you an advantage, and also using the skills you have to their fullest is important. Remember that unfortunately a lot more people are going to have to find work who may not have worked in 10 years, or at all. They're going to be going for the entry level jobs, so aim a little higher to give yourself more of a fighting chance. As for agencies, at the Jobcentre a lot people found admin work, and I'd say 9 times out of 10 they either found it through Blue Arrow or Office Angels. Warehouse / Industrial: Most people found work through The Best Connection. While I was working at the Jobcentre, I told people to remember one thing; "When everyone else is looking left, you look right."

Remember also that employers love applicants who have done voluntary work, so if possible get some in and make sure the dates are on your CV. The number of people who dont now how to fill in an application forms in is one of the most surprising things I came across , being involved in recruiting. The layout , the way you respond to the list of requirements is key to getting the interview in the first place. For me presentation is also paramount so always get more than one copy in case you make a mistake on the first one.
