Speed camera warners can be prosecuted.

I wouldn't call it sly and sneaky. The speed limit signs on that road are easily visible.

I was replying to the claim made by Spindrift that the CAMERAS were highly visable , which is NOT the case in Mottram .

What is your view on these GREEN cameras that are painted that colour to blend in and hide among the trees .?

They should be hidden. Whoever opposes the idea of criminals getting caught, apart from lardy?

The road Mr Thompson flashed other drivers on has a history of speeding, accidents, injuries and deaths.

His actions prevented criminals getting detected.

NO, his actions resulted in other drivers slowing down , thus resulting in the same outcome which was aimed for by the police.

Unless , of course , the intentions of the police were purely to raise revenue, which would explain the police`s heavy handed tactics used against Mr Thompson.

What would be more likely to reform a criminal? Someone flashing his headlamps at them or a £60 fine, 3 points and a bump in their premiums?

Against the defendant:

* They are not qualified or authorised to give instructions to other drivers.

* Flashing headlights is supposed to mean 'I'm here' - not 'Look out' and they risk distracting other drivers by doing it.

The thing is to be caught doing 35 in a 30 zone you would actually be travelling at about 38 mph. Well above the speed limit,

The official line is -

If someone is hit by a car at 40 mph they are 90% likely to be killed.

If someone is hit by a car at 30 mph they are 50% likely to be killed.

"He was fined £175 and ordered to pay £250 costs after being found guilty of wilfully obstructing a police officer in the course of her duties."

It doesn't say he was charged with preventing the police from catching speeding motorists, just that he was obstructing a police officer in the course of her duties.

Her duty was to assess which cars were speeding, he obstructed her from doing that by giving drivers an extra warning. It is irrelevant as to how the other drivers reacted to his warning, he is responsible for his own actions.

The claim was made that cameras can't detect anything other than speeding.

This is wrong:

Call them whatever you like, they can still detect a number of offences.

And stop getting shrill and insulting.

Ohhhh, you getting challenged and shown to be wrong so you result to insults, just goes to show what sort of person you really are i see :D

actually the official line is :-

If someone is hit by a car at 40 mph they are 90% likely to be killed.

If someone is hit by a car at 30 mph they are 80% likely to live.

If you are going to quote at people, at least have the decency to quote correctly!!

Driving without lights at night is dangerous. Please refrain from flashing your lights at drivers to warn them that they have left their lights off, not only will you be obstructing a police officer in the course of his/her duties, but they are much more less likely to forget in future after a fine rather than a casual reminder from another driver.

After all, why be nice to each other and have empathy for others when being vindictive can be so much more rewarding.

ASSETT cameras are equipped with ANPR:

The Big Brother of all speed cameras now under trial in Finland will detect speed, recognise number plates and tailgating, detect whether seat belts are being worn and check whether insurance and road tax are up to date.

This all-seeing eye could be on the UK’s streets when it’s rolled out across Europe in 2013.

So they are not ANPR as you originally stated and they are not here either, so you are now admitting that your post was wrong then lol
