Seven Noachide Laws

Recommended Posts

You what?

OK, it works like this. Anyone is free to affiliate to any religion or none. How does anyone 'benchmark' the various options, though? Is there an objective reference system that can determine whether a religion's own value system is acceptable or not?

Yes. Well before any religions existed, there were the Seven Noachide Laws. For more about them. see websites listed at http://uk.ask.com/web?q=%22seven+noachide+laws%22&sm=adv&dm=all&qsrc=196&o=0&l=dir.

Comments on this concept are welcome (but not if you only want to argue that yours is the only valid religion).

I think that this is the most stupid thing I have ever read.

Really? You can't read many of the comments on SF then.

All the Noachide offers is a simpified form of the 10 commandments, what's so ridiculous about a set of moral rules that includes things like do not kill, steal, or commit incest (obviously, the latter might be a concern to some)?

That sentence alone is enough to show that you don't know what you're talking about so therefore this thread is never going to get off the ground in the way that you hope:

a) Religion has been around for as long as humans have been and

b) The Seven Noachide Laws form part of the Jewish religion.

What was your original point meant to be? Where did you get the idea for the thread from? That might make for a more interesting discussion point! :)

Hmmm you say before religions existed but what you really mean is before the abrahamic religions existed and yet the subject at hand is unequivicably linked with the jewish faith.

The only way you can look at this subject as being pre-abrahamic religions is if you consider that noah lived before the religions were formalised, but then we have the problem that the idea of noah and the flood comes from these religions and so cannot be discussed as a seperate issue.

I really can't think what your aim is with this subject.

Perhaps you should just ask which religion has the best value system and let us discuss it from there.
