Bassman62 Posted January 12, 2011 Share Posted January 12, 2011 there are many people on the dole to fill these jobs? before the crunch there were thousands of jobs going. even the Polish came in and couldn't fill them. interesting that they all came and got jobs that no one was doing. it's not that people are paid peanuts. it's that they feel the jobs, even at proper minimum wage, are beneath them. and, who's gonna come of the dole to get minimum wage? not the many you speak of. That is totaly wide of the truth, these jobe were there long before illegal or Polish immigrants came, you seem to think that this industry suddenly appeared; it's been there for generations. A very high precentage of those working in these jobs are not registered and are very rarely if ever paid the legal wage letalone the standard working hours. Not true, unless you're on the Workers Registration Scheme no honest employer will touch you, the penalties are way too high. What percentage are you talking about and what's your source? Please don't try and tell people who've lived here all their lives. i have never been to Germany but i know its history. there are people that have lived here all the lives but don't even know who john major is. where i was born has no bearing on what i know. yes, back in the day people worked as everything from chimney sweeps to farm hands. there was no social security then. when it was introduced people used it right and things more or less worked. but like with every system people found holes in it, exploited it and so rose three-generations-on-incapacity families. why do you think that so many factory jobs etc (where minimum wage is enforced) are done by foreigners mostly when there are so many young able bodied people on the dole? Not buying fruit or vegetables harvested by them or use pubs where they serve, cafes where they wait or offices they clean? I work at a place employing over a well over 1,000 people about 800 of them are not uk residents just the ones that the public SEE are!And this is the case at any big supermarket and many many other large companies.They are hidden away so the public dont get too upset when they see just how many jobs are NOT available to uk residents. Companies are being leaned on and many incentives put in place.Of course many immigrants dont have £150,000 mortgages to pay either so they can afford to work for lower money as they are sending most of it 'Home' anyway. The myth they are just doing low end jobs is just that MYTH! Who says they are barred from applying?They can apply but they wont get them,bit of a lauguage barrier. Ive already given you an example,have a look in any large wharehouse.No you cant, because the public have no access and thats very very handy. Ive already given you an example,have a look in any large wharehouse.No you cant, because the public have no access and thats very very handy. language barrier for English people born here? why has it gotten to a situation when so many foreigners filled these jobs yet there were so many unemployed natives that could have done them had they wanted. like you said, people do jobs they're suitable for. you can't put people with no language skills to deal with the public. so you put them where they're suitable. but even that had to be ignored when the NHS was near enough running out of nurses and foreigners had to be brought in. can't say it was coz the NHS pays peanuts under the legal minimum. All those cockle pickers who drowned were working illegaly but supplied by gangers as are the unemployed working illegaly as fruit and veg pickers for the gangers.
