Park Drive Cigs Football Books

Recommended Posts

It was quite common for footballers to smoke up to and including the 1960s. According to this web site, some players still do. Beats me how they can do it.

That reminds me of a game against Everton at Hillsborough in the 60's, I was near the front on the terraces when Roy Vernon(Everton's skipper), a notorious chain smoker, came right over to take a throw in. As he was running over to retrieve the ball, he was almost close enough to touch, when I shouted " Do you want a drag Roy"( I was chugging on a Park Drive). He stared right at me and said "****off" :hihi:

This is the first book – printed in 1968. From my extensive collection.

Page 4 may be of interest for Ontarian to peruse. LOL.

Good one Z.

Roy Vernon was Welsh Mr.T. are you sure that's what he said ?

George was on the front of the first one.

Red shirt, mid-60s haircut, brown-ish ball at feet, launching an attack for Man U.

Can't remember who is on the front of the second one. Could it be Billy Bremner? I don't have it to hand.

Both copies are at my parents.

To know if Billy Bremner was on the front, the picture would have kicked you.

I had at least one of those books. I've kept all my programmes, football annuals and magazines but that one seems to have disappeared.

On the back cover of one of those books I am sure there was a photo of Leeds United v Blades. I think it was the FA cup quarter final at Elland Road in March 1968.

The image I have in my mind is Bernard Shaw clearing off the line from what seems a Leeds corner.

Park Drive Cigs Football Books

Here is Bernard Shaw on the back page of the first book L-R Billy Bremner, Bernard Shaw, Allan Clarke, Jack Charlton, Alan Hodgkinson, Alan Woodward and Len Badger. I don’t know who the Blades player is being squeshed between Charlton and Hodgkinson.

On page 272 is another pic of interest

Roy Vernon – 1 2 3 4 5

Special offer – Gary Pendry (Brum) and Andy Lochhead (Vanilla).

More smokes from early seventies

The squeshed player is David Munks, recognise the knees :D Haven't smoked for a good while, but could murder a Park Drive RIGHT NOW as I gaze at page 272 lol
