Hailed by Newsweek for creating a “gorgeous, joyful new sound,” acclaimed singer, songwriter and clawhammer banjo player Abigail Washburn delivers her timeless roots sound filtered through indie pop. She will be touring her third album, City of Refuge, which is receiving rave reviews and is sure to make many critic's 'best of' lists for 2011. Raw, ethereal and at times lushly orchestrated, City of Refuge unites renowned producer Tucker Martine (the Decemberists, Spoon, Sufjan Stevens) with Washburn’s classic songwriting, striking voice and old-time storytelling aesthetic. An impressive group of musicians and friends joined Abigail in the making of City of Refuge, including songwriting collaborator Kai Welch, guitarist Bill Frisell, fiddler Rayna Gellert, guzheng (the ancient Chinese zither) master Wu Fei, with string arrangements by Jeremy Kittel of the Turtle Island String Quartet. Chris Funk from the Decemberists and Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket also appear on the record.

Support from local favourites Dave Woodcock and the Dead Comedians.

Tickets £9 from The Greystones or online at wegottickets (event/101790) or from the arenaticketshop
