Plain Talker
It was the Cheese and Rice Croquettes that I loved for lunch at school. (although the cheese flan thing came a very close second)
Flowersfade
My school had the most beautiful fish pie and devil's cake...
Bulgarian
The secret (I guess) will be to use the cheapest ingredients possible, the flan was more cheese than anything else, so get a huge block of Smart Price cheese and add pastry.
Smack Jack
It was great, there was a cafe called the lions den at S3 that did a 'school cheese pie'. Its like the sweaty burgers in a bag we used to get - wrong but so wrong its right
Alcoblog
There is no way on Gods green earth that any school used goats cheese! Hey! ... slow down! I went to a private school called 'The School of the Virgin Goat'! everything there was goat orientated ... goat and chips, goat soup, spotted goat ... She was a dinner lady at Hatfield House in the late 90's.
Rupert_Baehr
Thanks for the recipes. My Grandma used to make a similar dish for Pop (her husband. [ He was a foreigner; came from Burnley ]) She made it in an enamel tin (no pastry.) It was fiercely sharp, one of the best thing I've ever tasted. I've tried and tried ... I can make a pretty good version, but never anything as good as Ma's. I'll try those recipes.
