People tend to care about what they need (or think they need), the poll is very black and white, if you threw in "cancer patients", "abandoned animals" and "the rainforests" then the split would be different.

 

But local councils aren't responsible for cancer patients, the rainforests or abandoned animals. The thread was in a direct response to recent stories where reduced council budgets have led to cuts in respite care, whilst at the same time Eric Pickles, Conservative Communities Minister, has demanded councils maintain weekly bin collections.
