NERVY-OWL
I've had a few 306 diesels. They aren't as economical in the winter but it should return more. I'd do a service, swap the glow plugs, stick on a new battery perhaps and do a full check of all air pipes for leaks. My current car is a 307 and that's doing about 50-55 mpg. i've had my 307 6 months and since i've been driving it's gone down to 47.1, don't know if theres a problem or not, it was 52 when i first got it
Allen
Glow plugs have been suggested twice.......... Glow plugs do nothing except pre warm to assist ignition. Forget that idea...it's not the problem. Most likely needs a good service.
danny11
I have a C Class 2.2 diesel, and I get about 32 mpg. Its caused by the cold weather - my engine takes an age to get up to temperature- and the millions of traffic lights Have you check the engine temperture? does it get to 85 or stays around 60. it is common fault with thermostat and easy to DIY, my C270 many years ago average 45mph over 30,000 miles mainly around sheffield, Also change the MAF
