andyofborg
This may seem an odd question but how far a drop would people say it was from the bridge over the Don near the Tesco Expresss on Derek Dooley way to the river?

John Dory
lol of course, i mean the normalish level. i need it for an insurance quote At a guess andy I'd say 18ft to 20ft, why not got some fishing line or string with a small weight attached, lower it down and mark the line when the weight hits the water and then measure it. The River Don level at the moment. http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/riverlevels/120702.aspx?stationId=8090

A friend was told that where he lives on Rustlings Road was at risk form the Porter in Endcliffe Park and gave him a ridiculously high quote! andyofborg
You want to watch what your telling them. A friend was told that where he lives on Rustlings Road was at risk form the Porter in Endcliffe Park and gave him a ridiculously high quote! Unfortunately, its them who have found out where we are. I was hoping to point out that the chances of the Don flooding again were pretty remote and even if the same level of flooding as 2007 happened again then we were not at risk. The policy in question is some specialist business insurance and is, from our point of view, a nice to have, rather than an essential. If they load the premium then chances are we wont renew. There are alternative insurers, but I'm guessing that they will pull the flood risk bit.
neeeeeeeeeek
It's pretty shallow, a friend lives in the flats that overlook it and some coppers were in there and just wandering about!

The river does seem to be fairly shallow at that point and you can usually see the river bed most of the time.

I would suggest that your best course of action would be to get the council to give you a list of measures that they took following the bad floods. The river course has been straightened, deepened and cleared of most of the debris that led to the flooding in the first place.
Alcoblog
I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this ... it's the easiest way to work out the depth! Just get a load of our good friends, the Don tree penguins to stand on each others shoulders and waddle out to the deepest part! Simply count how many penguins are submerged and multiply by 18 inches! If you can't be asked to do the maths, simply inform the insurance company how many penguins deep it is!
