Are you proud to be English

Recommended Posts

^^ This is similar to my view about national pride.

If you feel proud of the good aspects of England's past, should you not also be ashamed of the bad parts?

This question is for anyone who answered 'yes' in some form.

To answer yes I find strange in itself. If I had control prior to my birth maybe, I could say the same about the colour of my eyes..am I proud that their a certain colour? The colour of your eyes or place of birth isn't an achievement..how can one be proud of something you haven't achieved. I'm neither proud or ashamed of the good/bad aspects of our national past. I am fortunate however to have been born in a relatively safe environment, then again I'd probably say the same If I was born in Sweden or some such.

Why is it people from England are accused of racism for being proud to be English? you can like other countries and nationalities and be tolerant and still be proud of England.

Maybe thats the problem, we are not as a nation proud to be English, therefore we treat it like dirt and let people come in to ruin it and sponge off the land, and yes I'm talking about our immigration problem.

You read my post wrong. I said it makes me think of racist groups, it was opinion.

I'm not sure why you think people need to come IN to sponge off the land? There are plenty of English already sponging.

Your English is outstanding. Congratulations. You learnt to speak and write English in your country and it must be a very hard language to learn, so different in every way from Chinese. But think on this. How many western students have mastered Chinese equivalent to to your level of English?

Not very many I suspect.

As for the interviewers remarks he sounded like a bit of a nitwit.

It means 'the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics'. Russia was part of that union as the RSFSR, the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.

The soviets had a way with acronyms.

Nice one.

I sit corrected , I should have googled it before posting.
