You should read further in the speech to see just what John of Gaunt thought of his England, and perhaps it does resonate with the present state of affairs!his england ? he was welsh, admitedly a plantagenet royal but still welsh
RobFr
The ancient people of Israel (the ten so-called Lost Tribes); whom archaeology has established became the Scythians and the Cimmerians of history, whose origin had been a mystery. Lost to their true identity as foretold in The Scriptures, (Romans 11:25), the Israelites migrated to their appointed place (2 Samuel 7:10); some crossing Europe by land, others by ships through the Mediterranean to the coast-lands of Europe and the Isles in the West. The Scots claim ancestry to the branch of the Cimmerians (Celts) that dwelt in Spain for a period, and eventually came over to the Islands of Britain. They also claim that their royal line of kings (from Judah/Zarah of the Red hand - Genesis 38:30) has remained unbroken throughout their migrations. Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness (as to their true identity) is happened to part of Israel (the ten "lost" tribes - the House of Israel), until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 2 Samuel 7:10 Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime. Josephus, the historian, writing in A.D. 70, seems to have had knowledge of the migrations of most of the Israelites from Asia toward Europe, for, in his "Antiquities of the Jews" he writes: "...wherefore there are but two tribes in Asia and Europe subject to the Romans, while the ten tribes are beyond the Euphrates till now (A.D. 70) and are an immense multitude, and not to be estimated by numbers" (book 11, chap. 5). For the present day location of the Tribes of Israel, and a map showing their Wanderings from the Holy Land to the British Isles, please see: http://jahtruth.net/abraham The word Celt is the Anglicised form of the Greek word Keltoi, which means "the people who are different.*" In Scripture, all nations, except the Twelve Tribes of Israel, are referred to as Gentiles (Foreigners), so the only people who are different are Israel. The word Celt is therefore another word for Israelite. The Celts are part of the Ten "lost" Tribes of Israel; as are the Tuatha de Danaan and Milesians. The Irish people are a mixture of Celts; Danaans; Milesians; Judah/Zarahites (of the "Red Hand" - Genesis 38:28-30§); (Dan-ish) Vikings and Norsemen and are all racially cousins. * Deuteronomy 14:2 For thou [art] an holy people unto the "I AM" thy God, and the "I AM" hath chosen thee to be a peculiar* people unto Himself, above all the nations that [are] upon the earth. * Special - Different (Oxford dictionary). http://jahtruth.net/celtisr Also the word British is not English; it is Hebrew. Brit (Berit) means Covenant in Hebrew and Welsh Ish means man or people of, in Hebrew and English Therefore British means The People of The Covenant, in other words, the People Israel of The Covenant. The British People are Israelites and the British Throne is the Throne of David.

Greybeard
Aren't people proud to be wherever they are born I suspect many folk are....but how can anyone feel proud about something they had no control over ? National pride seems to be blind tribalism, a bit like that displayed by football supporters etc.
Bulgarian
Aren't people proud to be wherever they are born Generally, yes, but like others have said it's totaly random where you are born, it's not something you have achieved.
Hots on
After 13 years of New Labour, this country really went downhill in lots of ways, Instead of trying to build the country up, they were too preoccupied with bringing in all sorts of politically correct legislation to create some forced egalitarian society. They didn't truly have a vision for the country because the modern Labour party isn't really patriotic(in the real sense) in any way....instead they had a vision for the WORLD as a whole, in which this country merely plays a small part in.
