Speed humps damaging your vehicle.

Recommended Posts

10mph is too fast then. When you think about it it's a pretty basic skill to drive your vehicle without scraping it along a raised road surface.

Rather than saying 10mph is too fast, I think it more reasonable to state the speed hump is going beyond its intension if you still cause damage driving at 10 mph on a road where 20mph is safe.

The whole point of the post was that it is not a pretty basic skill on that particular hump.

Not if your car goes up and down along with the road surface.

Really? What's the distance between the front wheels of your car and the rear wheels? (The wheelbase)

How long (front to back) is a road hump?

Could you fit a 2ft long road hump between the front and back wheels of your car? (I've encountered plenty of speed bumps which are shorter than that.)

Are you aware that many exhaust systems have an expansion box between the manifold and the silencer? There are also a number of exhaust systems which incorporate a catalytic convertor. Those things do get hot and they're usually not recessed into the floor of the car.

I used to have an MGB (a long time ago.) The road clearance was just under 4". (Standard clearance)

I drove over a brick on the East Lancs road (the wheels didn't touch it.)

The brick was just over 4" thick.

It didn't half get loud.

No he means underneath his car still hit the bumps at 10 mph, plain english not good enough for you to understand:

No what he really means is that he wants to speed and is not going to let speed bumps stop him. Therefore when his car is damaged the only person to blame is himself.

The area around Carterknowle Road is terrible for these, I just don't bother going down there any longer. Absolutely no way I would ever consider buying a house round there simply on the grounds that I'd have to drive over hundreds of these every day - I don't know how the residents put up with it.

The resdents ASKED to have speed bumps put there because they became a little weary of stupid and incompetent drivers killing their children.

Do you honestly think that 10mph is too fast to be driving even in a town street?

For goodness sake why don't you read the highway code and take some refresher driving lessons in order to learn about the dangers of speeding, rather than arguing about your right to speed.

All you and the others who complain about speed bumps/cameras etc are doing is showing how uninformed you are about driving.

Your lack of knowledge about driving is frightening and the reason thousands of children get killed every year.

I doubt that very much.

It was all part of the SCC sponsored "speed initiative", on which I have an A4 folder full of papers kindly sent by SCC.

My guess is that most residents actually voted against the idea.

Would you care to answer the question. Do you think 10mph is an excessive speed?

Speed bumps should be used to enforce the speed limit in force, they should not be used to force drivers to slow to a stop in order to negotiate them.

Your guess would be wrong.

The council don't just stick a pin in a map and then decide to put speed bumps there to annoy people.

They do because it because there has been a large amount of accidents there due to idiots speeding and killing and maimng people.
