Bulgarian
There has to be the hope of bettering oneself, and if that still isn't possible through education and hard work, huge divisions are going to open up in society. It is possible isn't it ?

mike edds
Yes, there is a structure in society, but this isn't the army. There has to be the hope of bettering oneself, and if that still isn't possible through education and hard work, huge divisions are going to open up in society. This is what's happening now. The rich, powerful and well connected control politics, media, banks, and business, in fact everything they need to get richer and richer. All at other people's (that's us) expense. You only need to look at the likes of Philip Green. He manufactures in other countries because it's cheaper and avoids paying tax in this country. He does this for his own benefit so his coffers increase, not ours. So what do we do? Give him a Knighthood and a place in government! Cosy. this is the real situation. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/8033505/Number-of-millionaires-in-Britain-rises-to-more-than-280000.html
Gormenghast
Y You only need to look at the likes of Philip Green. He manufactures in other countries because it's cheaper and avoids paying tax in this country. He does this for his own benefit so his coffers increase, not ours. . It's what you would have done if you were faced with a crippling mortgage interest rate of 18%. like I did in the 80s, to survive and keep my home. It's dog eat dog at the moment. Live with it, like I did, and get over it. After a very long financial struggle I've come out of the other end. Keep calm and carry on.
Cliff Clavin
So you'd pay british tax and tax wherever you were earning the money, doesn't seem very fair That is correct, the high earners who can afford to pay high taxes won't be dodging it then and the low earners who can't afford taxes would pay less, much fairer society. What doesn't seem fair about it? While a person carries a British Passport they get the bennifits of help from the British Consulate etc. so pay up your dues, this way the country wouldn't be in the financial mess that it is. And seriously why should someone with 100,000,000 in the bank and earnining millions per year be able to live somewhere like Jersey tax free? Bulgarian
the low earners who can't afford taxes would pay less Why would they ? Do the low earners get to not pay tax, effectively not contributing anything to the country ?

Rupert_Baehr
if we demand kids to die in service to this nation we can demand 1000 super rich hand over the money they have. old money or not. Perhaps so. And if we have volunteer Armed Forces, presumably we should wait for the 1000 super rich you're talking about to put their money in the collection boxes?
